Bio

Born to two aspiring musicians in, Stephen Dorian Miner grew up feeling both a desire and a responsibility to make music an integral part of his chosen career. Beginning as a high school journalist, Stephen enjoyed reviewing concerts and made it a point to include music reviews in his work, scattered amongst mostly investigative assignments.

Despite his initial inspiration was to be a writer, Stephen's increasing affinity for photography led him to incorporate it into his studies of journalism. While attending Bard College in New York, Stephen learned the technical and aesthetic aspects of both crafts.

When forced to choose between the two, Stephen left Bard ro continue his education in San Francisco. He attended several institutions taking classes and workshops to broaden his knowledge, while self-teaching himself and spending time in the field shooting.

Soon after experiencing the rush of having his first photo published at the age of 22, Stephen put writing on the back burner and vigorously pursued a career photographing musicians and music events.

By the early 90s, Stephen had developed a professional relationship with Bill Graham Presents. Soon after the rock and roll production-company re-opened San Francisco's Fillmore Auditorium, Stephen was asked to sign on as one of the house photographers for the legendary venue.

A stint as chief photographer for an all-local music magazine started Stephen's extensive relationship with much of the Bay Area's up and coming talent. He cultivated these relationships over the years and earned himself a respected place in San Francisco's burgeoning local music scene at the time.

While fun and personally rewarding, the abusive nature of the music industry took its toll and Stephen re-invented himself, using his skills and vision to make a mark in event photography.

Never one to forget his roots or leave a project incomplete, at the turn of the century Stephen returned to his studies as a photojournalist and earned his degree in journalism at San Francisco State University.

Renewing his commitment to excellence in visual storytelling, Stephen continues to grow and improve, freelancing for publications and agencies, while continuing his successful work shooting corporate events.

Stephen continues to grow as a photographer and journalist, pursuing greater knowledge and a creative vision for both the present, and the future.
